Panting My View Of Cedar City

Project Reflection

My motivation for this project format, was to push myself to create a picture that was bigger than I had ever done. I chose the subject of it because I wanted to focus on something that I loved.

I took photos for references, and sketched out the layout of the painting, a few different times, until it looked the way I wanted. I did the actual painting in many layers of paint, allowing it to dry in between layers.

My goal was to develop my own unique way of painting with both watercolors and acrylics. With some patience and lots of practice I was able to come up with a technique that I am quite happy with.

The out come of this project was a painting that I felt proud of. One that I would be happy to hang up in my own house and when I would look at it, remember all that I have accomplished to get it there.

I learned how to paint with watercolors in Art class in school. When I graduated I didn't work with watercolors as much because it took lots of planning, and my painting sessions were pretty impromptu. This is when I discovered acrylic paints and their qualities of being opaque and able to be layered. I used these skills, plus learning how to combine them to complete this project.

I am grateful that SUU has this program for experiential learning, because it gave me, as well as other students, the opportunity to plan out and see a big project through to the end. This ability and the confidence in doing so, to be able to plan and execute a large project, is one most people don't have before joining the workforce. This I think gives SUU students an edge on other students graduating at the same time as them.

Here are the general work in progress pictures for this project.

Painting the temple was Scary!

My husband didn't get to use our table for a whole week! ;)
